Reverend David R. Bishop, Senior Pastor

The Reverend David Randolph Bishop has emerged as a leading pastor, preacher, teacher and builder of God’s Kingdom within the Sixth Episcopal District. His commitment to God has been manifested in the lives of those who have been touched by his unique brand of pastoral care. Pastor Bishop has served three churches within the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference. As a Pastor he has led over three hundred souls to a new life in the Lord. His leadership abilities have garnered the attention of several metropolitan Atlanta newspapers and periodicals.

Reverend Bishop is married to Barbara Hester Bishop and together they share a ministry of inspiration and empowerment for the children of God. They share this joy with their son, David Ryan Bishop, V. Pastor Bishop is a native of South Carolina and a product of New York City. His family is deeply rooted in the Christian faith in general and African Methodism in particular.

The Call & Ministerial Experience

Pastor Bishop acknowledged and accepted his calling to the pastoral ministry on April 13, 1990. He entered this calling while a member of Big Bethel A.M.E. Church. Since this miraculous event, Pastor Bishop has been determined to grow in ministry. His ministerial experience is as follows:

  • Called to Ministry on April 13, 1990 while a member of Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Received License to Preach from Presiding Elder W.L. Scarborough in May of 1990
  • Enrolled in Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in September 1990
  • Admitted to the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference by Bishop John Hurst Adams in May of 1991
  • Graduated with Honors from Seminary in May 1993 received the Master of Divinity Degree
  • Ordained an Itinerant Deacon May 1993 by Bishop Donald George Kenneth Ming
  • Ordained an Itinerant Elder May 1995 by Bishop D.G.K. Ming

Major Pastoral Accomplishments

  • Wilkes Chapel
    • Organized Children’s Ministry for the Perry Homes Community
    • Established partnerships with Pitts Elementary and Archer High Schools
    • Organized Annual Community Wide Health and Wellness Fair Greater St. Paul
    • Established the Jesus Net Computer Lab with five state of the art computers
    • Renovated the Fellowship Hall to accommodate the Computer Lab
    • Successfully retired all debt and conducted Mortgage Burning Ceremony
  • New Hope
    • Constructed the New Life Center and Parsonage on the gifts and offerings of the members and friends.
    • This $300,000 facility houses a multi-purpose space, pastor’s study, two full service kitchens, two handicapped accessible bathrooms and a two bedroom, two bathroom parsonage. There is no debt and all rooms are fully furnished.
    • Initiated the New Hope Capital Campaign - A $1 Million Campaign to finance the renovation of the Fellowship Hall
    • Installed a new roof and repaired water damage

Educational and Vocational Experience

Pastor Bishop possess over twenty years of experience in the planning and design field. He holds professional degrees and has vast experience in Architecture, Landscape Architecture , Planning and Urban Design Pastor Bishop has worked for both the private and public sectors in the design of corporate, educational and institutional facilities. He has His educational experience in this area is as follows:

  • June 1979 Bachelor of Science, Landscape Architectural Design - The City College of New York
  • June 1980 Bachelor of Architecture The City College of New York
  • September 1983 - Professor of Landscape Architecture - Univ. of Georgia School of Environmental Design
  • September 1992 - Professor of Design - Initiated Morris Brown College Dual Degree Program with UGA
  • June 1993 - Master of Divinity Degree from Turner Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center
  • May 1986– January 2000 Formed Bishop Planning Consultants, a small privately held planning and design firm that grew from one person to ten in four years. Responsible for over $750 million in design and construction developments in Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. His professional achievements have been documented in the following periodicals:
